By Paul Thompson This is Part 5 of 5 looking at Psalm 1. Part 1 | Part 2| Part 3 | Part 4
Why do the nations rage and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth set themselves, and the rulers take counsel together, against the Lord and against his Anointed, saying, “Let us burst their bonds apart and cast away their cords from us.” He who sits in the heavens laughs; the Lord holds them in derision. Then he will speak to them in his wrath, and terrify them in his fury, saying, “As for me, I have set my King on Zion, my holy hill.” I will tell of the decree: The Lord said to me, “You are my Son; today I have begotten you. Ask of me, and I will make the nations your heritage, and the ends of the earth your possession. You shall break them with a rod of iron and dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.” 10 Now therefore, O kings, be wise; be warned, O rulers of the earth. 11 Serve the Lord with fear, and rejoice with trembling. 12 Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him. Psalm 2

Our response

When you look at the news, no matter your political affiliation, no matter your nationality, the right response is Christ is King. To often we look to Presidents, or rulers to be a savior to us. “This president will fix our economy” “This president will make us a Christian nation again” “This president will give use the rights we really deserve.” Even now with uncertainty around Coronavirus, and COVID-19, people are looking to governors, the President, Prime Ministers, etc for leadership and direction – and those leader need to provide it – but we must not take our eyes off of Christ. I’m reminded of Jehosephat’s prayer in 2 Chronicles 20:1-12. It ends with this: “O our God, will you not execute judgment on them? For we are powerless against this great horde that is coming against us. We do not know what to do, but our eyes are on you.” There is one King in Zion – He has been nailed to a cross, died, and risen victorious. He has been given the nations as his heritage. Let us look to HIM, let us embrace HIM. Let us keep HIM before us, and trust HIM. Let us take REFUGE in HIM. Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and you perish in the way, for his wrath is quickly kindled. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
